About Maastr

Built by musicians. Engineered for real sound.

Maastr is an intelligent mastering engine designed to handle the chaos and character of real music, especially loud, guitar-forward genres like punk, metal and hardcore. No presets. No glossy filters. Just studio-quality results that feel human.

We launched in 2020 with a simple idea: mastering shouldn't be a mystery or a gatekeeping tool. Artists deserve something fast, affordable and sonically legit. So we built it ourselves, from scratch, with a focus on musicality and real-world results.

Since then, Maastr has mastered thousands of hours of music for artists around the world. Those tracks have racked up millions of streams. But more importantly, they've made it onto records people are proud of.

Built by people who actually make records

Jay Maas (CEO) is a long-time producer and engineer with credits across hardcore, punk and indie. Over the past two decades, he's recorded and mixed hundreds of records for bands including The Story So Far, Counterparts, Title Fight, Have Heart, Propagandhi, and more. He studied at Berkley School of music, and also has a background in computer science, which influenced his approach to making Maastr's mastering engine as sonically transparent and musically aware as possible.

Joe Tagliaferro (CTO) is a veteran technologist and accomplished software engineer with a track record of success across startups and public tech companies that have achieved global recognition and amassed hundreds of millions in combined valuation. From his studio, Joe leads Maastr’s technical vision and infrastructure with precision and creativity. His deep expertise spans scalable architecture, clean code practices, and the nuanced technical demands of audio mastering. With a rare blend of engineering rigor and musical intuition, Joe ensures Maastr’s platform is both powerful and sonically sophisticated.

Maastr isn't just an endpoint for music.

It's designed to fit naturally into a real-world workflow. Tools like version tracking, mix note timelines and revision history are built into Maastr because they're the exact tools Jay wished existed when he was deep in the grind of making records. Our goal is to cut out the stuff that wastes valuable hours in the studio and help keep the creative process moving forward.

World-class mastering in minutes.
That's not hype. That's our standard.
